How to: Moderate your community

Members can flag content, auto-hidden after two flags. Admins manage flagged posts, block, ban, or delete users. Banned users are blocked, and auto-moderation tools like banned words ensure safety.

How does it work

Communities auto-regulate themselves as any member has the right to flag inappropriate content (post and comments) or users. They play a major role in keeping communities safe spaces for all.

To flag a post, click the three dots at the top right corner of the post and click “report.”

By default, TokyWoky applies a standard rule for content flags, the rule being

if a content receives 2 flags, it is automatically hidden from the community

Flags to auto mederate: That rule can be modified on each community and each group (channels > edit > post configuration > advanced settings > flags to auto-moderate).

Removed content after being flagged

This content goes straight to a Moderation channel, visible and accessible for admins only. In there, you can take multiple actions:

  • If the content has been flagged once, admins have the right to remove them (which sometimes are accidental - you might receive DMs about this) which will result in the content been visible again on the community.

👉To moderate a post on the moderation channel, click the three dots at the top right corner of the post and click on the action you are looking for.

  • If the content has been flagged twice, and removed, admins can leave it (and keep track of the author who posted the content), or more rarely, reinstate the post

Another auto-moderation feature available is what we call banned words. This helps preventing any inappropriate content being posted on the community.

If a member shares a post or comment that contains a banned word, they will see a pop-up asking them to modify their post.

User Moderation

When members don’t get along, it’s important to remind and invite them to use the blocking feature. Once a user blocks another user, he will not be able to see its content anymore but others would still be able to check the blocked user content. They will no longer be able to interact with each other as well.

To block a user, ban or delete their profile… go to their public profile, click the three dots at the top right corner, and select the action you are looking for.

If a member notices that someone is having inappropriate behaviour of any kind (in the public space or though the inbox section), they can also flag (report) users for admins to take action in the moderation channel.

Admin actions for inappropriate users

Ban a user

When a user is banned from the community, he/she is logged out of his/her account and unable to log back in.

As their IP adress is blacklisted, they are uable to create another account with another email address. However, they could if they were using a VPN to change their IP adress.

Content associated to a banned user will still be visible by the rest of the community, but the nickname and any information on their profile will be removed - the profile is anonimized.

In the Backend we keep who banned, the banned, when and why (If the person who banned tells the reason)

Delete a user

If you’re facing an extreme situation (e.g multiple posts including violence, nudity, spam…) that you’re unable to delete manually, we invite you to ban the user AND delete any data associated with them.

This user content will not be visible by other users but will be backed up in our data-base

The date of the removal and the person who deleted the other user are not saved in our base.
