How to: Create Missions

A mission is a task members complete to earn points, involving actions like posting, commenting, or submitting screenshots. Missions can be unique or recurring and may target specific members based on roles or statuses.

Types of missions

Unique missions

Members can complete them and win points for it only once. They can require members to:

  • Submit a screenshot (follow the brand on Instagram, read a blog post…)
  • Complete a set of actions (like and comment a post)
  • Complete one action (fill in your Instagram handle on your profile)

One done, when the users received its points, the mission move to the "Completed missions" section.

Recurring / all-time missions

Members can complete them multiple times, as much as they want!

Be careful to set up recurring missions that aren't too easy to avoid giving members points too easily (e.g. don’t give 20 points each time a member shares a post on the community).

These can be:

  • Points for each of their post that is validated
  • Points for each of their comment that is validated
  • Points whevener they complete a product testing
  • Submitting a screenshot (e.g. text message sent to your friend to invite them on the community, post on a specific topic, etc)
External actions (may need help from your CSM to set these up)
  • Track Instagram, Youtube or TikTok posts with a specific #
  • Track reviews left by your community members (if you’re integrated with a review provider, e.g. BazaarVoice, Yotpo, Power Reviews etc.)
Targeted missions

They are only shown to specific members (and are unique missions), the targeting being based on:

  • Their role or status
  • The product they are testing
  • An event they registered for
  • The answers provided to questions in their private profile

To set targeted missions, you have to choose the "Targetting: ..." condition and select the one that correspond to your needs.

Creating a mission

  1. In Gamification > Missions, click on "+ Add a mission"

  2. Fill in the "Main info" section

    Title
: Try to keep it short as it will be cut off after 2-lines length.
Description: Explain what members have to do to complete the mission and any useful information.
Reward: If you want to reward members for completing a mission, you can add it here. You will then have to export members who completed that mission and contact them separately about the reward. This field can also be used to add more details (limited-time mission, bonus points…).
Image URL: Choose an image to go with your mission.
Nb of points to earn: Select how much points are associated with the mission’s completion. The more important the mission, the more points we recommend giving. Note: if you don't want to give points for a mission, keep “0”.

  3. Select your conditions. These are the different actions that members have to do to complete the mission. That means if you set multiple conditions and one of those isn't fullfiled, the member won't receive the reward/points.

  4. [OPTIONAL] Set up a start and end date for your mission (only works for unique missions). This allows you to plan when you want missions to go live or be removed from your community.

If a mission is set with a specific end date, it will automatically be removed from the platform, but it will still be visible in the back-end, you will have to manually remove it from there.
Please note it will not be possible to recover this mission, you will have to create a new one.

If your mission starts as soon as it is created and not at a future date, we advise you to remove the default date (creation date) when creating it. In fact, if this date is not necessary, we suggest you remove it, especially if you use conditions linked to roles or custom fields.

Missions with a Start and/or End Date

Here are some practical cases for displaying missions on the community side that have a start and an end date:

Case 1: Condition A has no start date, but has an end date

The mission is displayed as soon as it is created and remains visible only if the user has completed Condition A before the end date. Otherwise, it disappears from the list.

Case 2: Condition A has a start date, but no end date

The mission is displayed from the start date of Condition A and remains always visible.

Case 3: Condition A has both a start date and an end date

The mission is displayed from the start date of Condition A and remains visible only if the user has completed Condition A before the end date. Otherwise, it disappears from the list.

Case 4: Condition A has a start date, but no end date + Condition B has neither a start nor an end date

The mission is displayed from the start date of Condition A and remains always visible.

Case 5: Condition A has a start date, but no end date + Condition B has no start date but has an end date

The mission is displayed from the start date of Condition A and remains visible after the end date of Condition B only if the user has completed Condition B. In this case, it is no longer displayed to other users.

Case 6: Condition A has both + Condition B has no start date but has an end date

The mission is displayed from the start date of Condition A and remains visible after the latest end date of the two conditions, provided that the user has completed both. It disappears for all users who have not fulfilled both conditions before their respective end dates.

Case 7: Condition A & Condition B have both a start date and an end date

The mission is displayed from the earliest start date between the two conditions and remains visible after the latest end date of the two, if the user has completed both conditions. It disappears for all users who have not completed them within the given deadlines.

Managing missions on the back-end

You can manage your missions to keep everything tidy and easy to find. Here's how to do it:

Create a section
  1. Go to Config > Gamification > Missions
  2. Click the "+" icon located at the bottom left of any mission.
  3. Choose "Add a title" to create a section.
Move, group and organize missions

To place a mission into a section, hover your mouse over the dots next to the mission. When the cursor changes to a hand, click and drag the mission into the desired section.

This way, you can easily group and reorganize your missions as needed.

Edit a mission
  1. Go to Config > Gamification > Missions
  2. Click on the three dots on the right corner of the mission
  3. Then choose "Edit"

You can edit the title, description and number of points only, but not the condition(s).  If you’ve made a mistake, please delete your mission and create it again.

Hide, delete or recover a mission

You can delete a mission anytime by clicking on the three dots on the right corner of the concerned mission, then "Delete".

This is a "soft delete", allowing you to recover the mission later. To do so, enable the "Show disabled missions" toggle. Then, simply click on "Recover this mission".

Please note that you won’t be able to recover a mission that was created with a specific ending date.

When you delete a mission, it is not visible on the platform anymore, but its data still remains in the backend in the Stats section. This data allows you to use it in reports to compare with future missions.

Can I change the condition associated with a mission?

No, you can’t. For technical reasons, you can only update the main info (title, description, icon, number of points, reward…). However, to avoid confusion for your members, we recommend creating a new mission instead of modifying it.

How to highlight a new mission I’ve just created?

To highlight a new mission, in addition to letting members know it’s available (in a post, via email…), you can:

  • Put it in a dedicated section (e.g. "Monthly Exclusive Missions")
  • Put the name in square brackets.
How to create a social mission (Instagram, Youtube TikTok)?

  2. Upload your image and copy the URL by hovering the image.
  3. Go to the mission’s description and click the image icon.
  4. Paste the URL and click “OK.”
