Social missions are an external gamification action designed to engage your community on social platforms like Instagram, Youtube and TikTok.
Create a Social Mission
A social mission invites users to post on Instagram, Youtube or TikTok using a specific hashtag, then rewards them with points or progress in the community. They can be created by following these steps:
First, set up an External action:
In Config > Gamification > External actions, click on the "+Add an external action" button
Choose the external action type (Instagram, Youtube or TikTok), you can create one of each
Fill in the hashtag you want the users to use in their posts (without the #) and click on "Create"
Then, link it to a Mission:
In Config > Gamification > Missions, click on the "+Add a mission" button
Once you fill all the required fields, on conditions choose "External action"
Then select the external action you previously created from the list
Define how many posts featuring this hashtag a user has to publish, or set it as recurring.
- Optional: you can set a time frame during which you want users to use the hashtag.
Reminder: an end date is set to one month by default.
If your mission starts as soon as it is created and not at a future date, we advise you to remove the default date (creation date) when creating it. In fact, if this date is not necessary, we suggest you remove it, especially if you use conditions linked to roles or custom fields.
What users need to do
Once the mission has been posted and users wish to take part, here's what they need to do to participate:
Post on Instagram, Youtube and/or TikTok with the required hashtag you set for the mission
Go to the mission page on their profile, and click on the button to validate the mission (by default, this button shows "Done! Check my profile!" but it can be custom-labeled):
The button is disabled for 24 hours when clicked, this is the delay for post retrieving. However, Instagram, Youtube & TikTok are separated: users can click on the button for each at different times, on the same day.
There’s an automatic moderation system on TikTok, Youtube and Instagram that doesn’t validate posts immediately after they’re published, it can take up to 5 minutes for a post to be approved. That's why we recommend asking users to wait 5 minutes after publication before clicking the button.
If users publish and click the button immediately, TikTok, Youtube or Instagram may not yet have fullly validated the post so the mission can be invalidated. They can always try again when the button becomes available.
Mission validation
We use a tool which allows us to automatically search on Instagram, Youtube and/or TikTok to see if the user has posted content using the specific hashtag. This action is called "post retrieving".
How does it work?
When users click on the mission page to validate their participation, the "post retrieving" automatically search for their most recent posts with the required hashtag. This will validate the users who have actually participated in the mission, so that they can be rewarded.
How to check if a user completed the mission?
If a user contacts you because they haven't been rewarded for the mission, you can easily check whether they've posted with the required hashtag.
Go to Stats > Reporting > Social campaigns (beta) and follow these steps:
If the post retrieving & the post were correct, you'll see it in the list.
If not, to avoid mistakes or requests from users who have not been rewarded, here are the points to watch out for:
- Hashtags must not contain accents or special characters.
- The user's Instagram, Youtube and/or TikTok account(s) must be public.
- The user must have correctly entered their Instagram, Youtube and/or TikTok handle on the community before posting, this is the account for which the post retrieving refers to.
- When users click on the button, only the most recent page of posts is taken into account : for Instagram, up to 12 recent posts | for TikTok, up to 10 recent posts | for Youtube, up to 15 recent posts.
- The post must be on the main grid, not on stories or on reels tab.
- Users must not edit their posts after publishing them.
- The user must not do a typo on the hashtag, so that post retrieving can identify it.
Points can take up to 24 hours to get credited on the user's account.
