How to : Create and Manage Contests/Competitions

The Competition feature is a key community activity that aims to boost members engagement and collect UGCs on any topic.

Understanding the feature

Competitions can take place in any group of your community, but are all showcased in a dedicated Competition tab. This section is always on to help any new member understand what type of competitions can take place on the community.

When a new competition goes live, it appears on top of the list. A clear CTA invites members to participate: members need to click on ’Participate’ to get more information about the competition they’re interested in.

Competitions are displayed according to their creation date: from the most recent to the oldest
An “ongoing” label is displayed in the main menu when there is a competition that is live on the community

They’re redirected to the group where the competition is hosted. The description of the competition is only shown once they’re in the group, explaining what to do to enter.

Users who do not wish to participate can still share content in the group by clicking on it directly in the menu.

Another entry to the competition will be shown in the header of the channel linked to the competition (if there is one running)

FAQs

Can there be more than one competition channel on the community?

No, you can only have one competition channel, but you can have several competitions running at the same time in one or more groups. Competitions are displayed according to their creation date: from the most recent to the oldest.

What should I do when there is no competition running?

We recommend keeping the competition channel visible even when there is no active competition as it allows members to look at the previous competitions, which might make them want to involve more within the community until the next competition goes live.

What is the size of the image to be used for the competition banner?

The size is 640x200px – the image used should be a pattern/texture for optimal display on all devices.

What if members don’t want to enter a competition?

They can still share content on the group without taking part in the competition, as there are 2 different flows on the group when a competition is activated.

What formats of competition are available?

Members can enter competitions only by sharing a post in the group where the competition is hosted. Competitions where members have to comment on a post or complete a survey/poll should be handled without using the competition channel (nb - you won’t be able to track this from the backend in the analytics section).

How can I give a competition greater visibility?

We recommend creating a dynamic homecard linked to competitions so the ongoing competition is visible from the homepage. When clicking on it, members are directed to the ongoing competition. If there is no ongoing competition, the dynamic homecard directs members to the competitions channel. Go to the “Config” section, “Home”, “Homecards” entry to create the dynamic homecard.

How can members know about new competitions?

Members can activate push notifications to receive push or email notifications when there is a new competition live on the community. To do so, they need to click on the bell icon at the top right of the channel and select the option they prefer.

Can I delete competitions that are no longer live from the community?

You cannot remove competitions that are no longer live from the community. This action needs to be done in the database by our technical account manager.
